2024. Die schöne neue Welt hat die Telefonie komplett gewandelt. IP-Telefonie hat die herkömmliche Telefontechnik samt ISDN und allen Komponenten ersetzt. Bis 2017 sind wir mit einem LKW am 21.12. zum Chaos Communication Congress gefahren. Haben tagelang geschleppt, gepackt, Kabel gezogen, Kabel gepatcht, konfiguriert, Hauptverteilerpläne gepflegt und Fehler behoben, damit spätestens am 26.12. alles läuft. Dann haben wir ab 26.12. jedes DECT-Telefon von Hand angemeldet. Am 29.12. waren wir fertig und am 30.12. haben wir bis ins neue Jahr abgebaut. In den letzten Jahren haben wir unsere IP-DECT Anlage mit Features vollgepackt und alles so weit optimiert, dass wir uns sogar eigene Kisten für unsere Hardware gefräst haben. Wir haben 3D gedruckte Logos für unsere DECT RFPs, im PoC Zwerg läuft ein Webserver und wie der funktioniert ist im internen Wiki ordnungsgemäß dokumentiert. Mit Screenshot. Laaaaangweilig! Wir reisen mit dem PKW an, irgendjemand schiebt einen Computer ins Rack, wir verteilen ein paar RFPs verbinden sie mit dem Netzwerk und sind fertig. Verkabeln? Machen wir nicht mehr. Haben wir an die Internetmanufaktur outgesourced. Anmelden? Machen wir nicht mehr. Haben wir an die Nutzer:innen outgesourced. Die ganze Vintage Technology macht die Chaosvermittlung. Im letzten Jahr haben wir am Tag eins beim Hack Zuck mitgespielt, als Team. Weil wir Zeit hatten. Das konnte so nicht weiter gehen. Uns allen war klar, es ist fünf vor totaler Verwahrlosung. Die Ordnung nimmt überhand und bevor jemand™ auf die Idee kommt Kunst zu machen, hat jemand anderes™ einen sehr großen Schrank aus Metall gefunden, der größer und schwerer war, als unsere alte, wegrationalisierte Telefonanlage. Der Metallschrank hört auf den Namen EWSD, was Elektronisches Wählsystem Digital bedeutet. Und alle so: Yeah!

ISDN wurde abgeschaltet. Wir schalten es wieder an! Und analoge Telefonie auch.

EWSD ist eine digitale (ISDN-)Vermittlungsstelle von Siemens für öffentliche Telefonnetze, die zwischen 1980 und heute betrieben wurde. Wir haben sie auf ein Minimum reduziert, werden sie auf dem Congress aufbauen und mit dem PoC-Netz verbinden.

Besucher:innen haben die Möglichkeit, sich per ISDN oder Analog an die EWSD anzuschließen. Für ISDN gilt: Falls du ein NTBA hast, bring es bitte mit. Falls du kein NTBA hast, kannst du dir bei uns eins leihen.

Für die komplette Retro Erfahrung kannst du dich per Modem oder per ISDN ins Internet einwählen. Natürlich auch mit Kanalbündelung. Man surft dann so schnell wie lange nicht mehr!

Für einen EWSD-Anschluss ist keine Registrierung einer Extension im Guru notwendig, es gibt feste Extensions dafür, die vor Ort vergeben werden.

Nebenstellen registrieren

Wie in jedem Jahr kannst du deine Nebenstelle(n) im GURU3 registrieren. Wir haben DECT, SIP, GSM, Callgroups, Applications, Announcements und Special Extensions im Angebot. Bitte achte darauf, dass du deine Nebenstelle im richtigen Event registrierst. Für Analog oder ISDN Nebenstellen benötigst du keine Registrierung (siehe oben). Die Registrierung ist seit dem 25.11.2024 geöffnet. Die reservierten Nebenstellen waren bis 13.12. reserviert. Nicht eingelöste Reservierungen fallen dann zurück in den Pool.

DECT & EPDDI

Es ist unser Kernprodukt. Stabil seit 2001. Auf dem Congress immer mit bester Netzabdeckung*. In der Tiefgarage, auf dem Klo, bei deinem Vortrag oder auf der Tanzfläche. Wenn du mit deinem DECT Telefon nicht erreichbar bist, dann liegt es nicht an Eventphone. Du möchtest wissen, ob dein Gerät mit unserem System funktioniert? GSM

Auf dem 38C3 wird es auch wieder Mobilfunk geben. Aktuell sind 2G und 4G sicher. 5G eventuell. Bringt eure CCC / Eventphone SIM Karten und Mobilfunktelefone mit. Neue SIM Karten vom Camp sind auch noch vorhanden.

Nun ist es genau ein Jahr her, dass uns die Pandemie in die Party gegrätscht ist. Das Digital Verteilte Online-Chaos (DiVOC) Jährt sich zum ersten Mal unter dem Motto Reboot to Respawn (R2R) und ermöglicht es uns einen Ort im Netz zu haben, um uns zu treffen und uns auszutauschen. Gerahmt wird das Ganze von Karfreitag bis Ostermontag (02.04. – 05.04.2021) mit einem Programm aus Vorträgen, Kunst und Musik.  🙂


Damit ihr wie gewohnt ungestört und unüberwacht kommunizieren könnt wird es auch wieder eine Telefoninfrastruktur geben, die technisch der des rC3 entsprechen wird. Die Registrierung der Nebenstellen ist bereits geöffnet.

Es werden SIP, Announcement und Eventphone Decentralized DECT Infrastructure (EPDDI) zur Verfügung stehen.

Für Chaos Studios, Hackerspaces & Chaostreffs stellen wir eine kleine Anzahl an RFPs (Antennen) zur Verfügung. Wie immer brauchen wir dafür zuverlässige Ansprechpartner*innen die sich um den Versand kümmern und sicherstellen, dass wir die Antennen auch nach dem Event sicher zurückbekommen. Wenn du eine EPDDI Zelle betreiben möchtest, lies dir die EPDDI Doku durch und stelle einen passenden Router bereit.  Wenn das der Fall ist, melde dich unter poc ‘at’ eventphone.de. Der Versand findet am 22.03.2021 statt.

Ab 22.03.2021 wird auch spätestens die Telefoninfrastruktur laufen.

DiVOC – Reboot to Respawn

It’s been exactly one year since the pandemic crashed our party. The DiVOC (german: Digital Verteiltes Online-Chaos, means Digital Distributed Online Chaos) will be celebrating its first anniversary under the motto Reboot to Respawn (R2R) and will allow us to have a place on the net to meet and exchange ideas. Framed from Good Friday to Easter Monday (02.04. – 05.04.2021) with a program of talks, art and music.  🙂

To ensure that you can communicate undisturbed and unwatched as usual, there will be again a telephone infrastructure, which will technically correspond to that of the rC3. The registration of extensions is already open.

SIP, Announcement and Eventphone Decentralized DECT Infrastructure (EPDDI) will be available.

For Chaos Studios, Hackerspaces & Chaostreffs we provide a small number of RFPs (antennae). As always, we need reliable contact persons to take care of the shipping and to make sure that we get the antennas back safely after the event. If you want to run an EPDDI cell, please read the EPDDI documentation (currently only in german) and provide a suitable router. Than contact us at poc ‘at’ eventphone.de. The shipment will take place on 22.03.2021.

From 22.03.2021 at the latest, the telephone infrastructure will also be up and running.

]]> Die Jahresendveranstaltung des Chaos Computer Club wird in diesem Jahr im digitalen Raum stattfinden. Das stellt uns als Phone Operation Center vor neue Herausforderungen. Wer uns kennt weiß, dass bei uns ein “Herausforderung angenommen” zum guten Ton gehört.

Die sozialen Medien lassen erahnen, dass wir an einer Lösung arbeiten, um ein sehr großes dezentrales SIP & DECT Telefonnetz zu ermöglichen. Unsere Vision:

Ein Netz wie auf dem Kongress – überall wo Du es willst.

Unser Plan ist, die SIP Infrastruktur ab 15.11.2020 (0 Uhr) im Live-Betrieb zu haben. Danach werden wir Stück für Stück DECT Zellen via VPN anbinden und in Betrieb nehmen.

Die Registrierung von Nebenstellen für das rC3 ist seit 6.11.2020 geöffnet und es können Nebenstellen reserviert werden.

Ihr wollt auch eine DECT Zelle betreiben?

Super, denn ohne euch geht es nicht. Wir wollen Chaos Studios, Hackerspaces, Chaostreffs, Büros, Spaces, Keller & Wohnzimmer mit DECT versorgen. Für Auskenner*innen: Ihr braucht dazu eine Mitel Generation 3 oder 4 IP DECT Antenne und einen MikroTik Router (hex, hap oder RBx). Wir haben uns für MikroTik Router entschieden, weil die in unserem Umfeld verbreitet sind, das Einstiegsmodell für 20 € zu haben ist und wir eine Möglichkeit gefunden haben, sie relativ unkompliziert provisionieren zu können. Genauere Informationen wird es in unserem Wiki unter EPDDI geben. Bitte schreibt uns keine E‑Mails oder Anfragen auf sonstigen Kanälen nach Details, wir schaffen es gerade nicht solche Anfragen zu beantworten. Wer Information braucht, wird vielleicht unter Vorträge & Videos fündig. Wer Langeweile hat unter Musik.

Why?

Last year, we almost completely replaced the Phone Operation Center (PoC) hardware and software, making it easier to use. This has given us the opportunity to provide functionality that was impossible to implement with our old setup. This includes self-registration of DECT phones, better extendability, self-administration of extensions and call groups and the LDAP phonebook. Now we want to solve another major problem from the user’s point of view. The compatibility of DECT devices. DECT-GAP is a standard which allows free interpretation of some parts. As a result, there is a considerable number of devices that do indicate DECT-GAP conformity in their datsheets, but still do not work at all or only with restrictions on our system. Up to now, no manufacturer has been willing to ensure that the devices work with our system, e.g. through firmware adaptations, even though we have made concrete suggestions for changes that wouldn’t have caused disadvantages with regard to compatibility with their own base stations.

In our test system, we were able to analyze and understand the communication of some devices that had not worked before. We have adapted our system so that it recognizes some of these models by making the required information available to them. With other models, we still don’t have enough information to guarantee reproducible and reliable connections. There are also models where we don’t even know why they don’t work.

We like to get a deeper insights of the DECT infrastructure when many different models from different vendors are registered. (Perhaps) This will enable us to support a greater variety of DECT devices. The basis for this is an understanding of how different devices communicate on the DECT interface. Therefore, we need significantly more sample data than what we can produce by manual tests. Since we do not store any connection data, we are not able to analyze data from past events. Because of this, we want to store connection data on the Easterhegg 2019.

Currently we have not found a way to offer opt-in on a per user basis. We could not answer many questions such as: “What do we do if a participant agrees to capture the data and calls a participant who has not agreed?”; “What happens with a group call where some members have agreed and some have not?”. If we optionally anonymize data per user, you can still see who tried to call from the call setup and you have to delete the attempted call setup for the user who tried to call and vice versa. Since we know that it is basically bad to store data, we have come to the conclusion that the situation doesn’t get any better if we make users believe that it’s safe to click on a checkbox when we can’t make sure it will work. We have decided to make transparent what we intend to do with the data, store it in a responsible way and to delete it safely after a specified period of time. If you do not want your metadata to be stored, you must not use any of our extensions on Easterhegg 2019. We believe that, unlike a Congress or Camp, this is acceptable on an Easterhegg.

What data is affected?

It is basically about the metadata of the DECT extensions. Speech/Voice data is not stored. The control messages between the antennas and the central software component that coordinates the antennae and phones are affected.

In detail, these are the following data:

  • the identities of the DECT devices: IPEI, TPUI and IPUI,
  • the keys used to encrypt the calls,
  • the call setup: Caller and called party
  • the call end (duration),
  • The mobile device details (capabilities of the mobile device),
  • the keystrokes on the device (for some devices),
  • the accesses to the phone book (for some devices).

Example: We store when Alice called Bob, how often it rang, how long the call lasted, what device Alice used, which device Bob used, what was shown on the displays and that during the call e.g. key 2 was pressed. This includes all data necessary to set up and disconnect the call as well as the base stations involved.

We do not evaluate keystrokes and accesses to the phone book, but we cannot rule out that this information will be sent.

Where is the data stored and how?

For the Easterhegg, we will take the server to a secure data center. The collected metadata is stored encrypted. Access to the data is exclusively encrypted. The data is explicitly excluded from all backups.

How long is the data stored?

The metadata of Easterhegg 2019 will be stored for a maximum of 4 months, i.e. until 23.08.2019 (end of CCCamp 2019). By 25.08.2019 at the latest, the data will be deleted and the area overwritten. We will officially announce the deletion.

Can I make a phone call without saving the metadata?

Yes, if you use a SIP extension and call another SIP extension, no metadata will be stored. However, you cannot ensure that a user has not converted a SIP extension into a DECT extension or group at short notice. So you have to check if the extension you want to call is a SIP extension at the moment.

Can I use the services of the PoC anonymously?

Yes, you can register with fantasy names and anonymous e‑mail addresses. We will then have the metadata, but we won’t be able to assign it to a real person. Note, however, that you are not using the phone at the camp (or 35C3) with a real name, because then we would be able to merge the data using the IPEI (we don’t intend to).

Do I have a right to information?

Yes.

Last year we almost completely replaced the hardware and software of the Phone Operation Center (PoC). The biggest step from the user’s point of view was to replace the long DECT registration queues with a self- or auto-registration function. At the Easterhegg 2018 it was our first test and fail. The second test in August 2018 at the EMF Camp in England was successful, but with a fraction of the number of extensions compared to the 35C3. We were asked a lot of questions through our usual channels and at both events, which makes us very happy. We took this as an opportunity to open the doors and give a long overdue, personal insight.

At the 35C3 on 27.12.2018 (day1) we held a lecture in the lecture arena of the Open Infrastructure Orbit (OIO). ST and Sascha explained and showed how the PoC has developed over the last years, why we work agilely, how a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) works and what mistakes we made. Subsequently, the PoC developers answered the audience’s questions.

The talk was recorded by the Open Infrastructure Orbit. As soon as the video is available, we will distribute the link via the usual channels. Today, we are already sharing the presentation slides with you, the intro (see above) and some impressions from the lecture. The audio file with which we announced the deregistration at the Easterhegg can be found in the blog post about the Easterhegg.

Wir haben im letzten Jahr die Hard- und Software des Phone Operation Center  (PoC) fast vollständig ersetzt. Der größte Schritt aus Benutzersicht war, die langen DECT Registrierungsschlangen gegen eine Selbst- oder Auto-Registrierungsfunktion zu tauschen. Auf dem Easterhegg 2018 war unser erster großer Test und fail. Der zweite Test im August 2018 auf dem EMF Camp in England verlief erfolgreich, aber mit einem Bruchteil der Anzahl an Nebenstellen im Vergleich zum 35C3. Über unsere üblichen Kanäle und auf den beiden Veranstaltungen wurden uns viele Fragen gestellt, was uns sehr freut. Das haben wir zum Anlass genommen die Türen zu öffnen und mal einen lange fälligen, persönlichen Einblick zu geben.

Auf dem 35C3 haben wir am 27.12.2018 (Tag1) einen Vortrag in der Vortrags-Arena des Open Infrastructure Orbit (OIO) gehalten. ST und Sascha haben erklärt und gezeigt, wie sich das PoC über die letzten Jahre entwickelt hat, warum wir agil arbeiten, wie eigentlich ein Minimum Viable Product (MVP) geht und welche Fehler wir gemacht haben. Im Nachgang haben die Developer des PoCs die Fragen des Publikums beantwortet.

Der Vortrag wurde vom Open Infrastructure Orbit aufgezeichnet.

This year we want to show that it is possible to provide reliable, secure communications infrastructure with the highest quality and premium service. For you! DECT, SIP or GSM extensions can be reserved in the new GURU3. The old accounts and data from the GURU2 have been migrated. It is now possible to select a random free extension or to display all free numbers at the push of a button. Last year we wrote: “Unfortunately it is technically not possible to speed up or parallelise the process [of the telephone registration]”.
And because it seemed impossible to us, we built it. We have retired our loyal old system and we started from scratch. With new hardware and new software – with focus on our biggest problems: How do we get rid of the long queues at the DECT registration? How to register phones in parallel? How can you register phones wherever you have DECT reception? How can everyone register their own phone?
And the DECT self-registration was finished. We tested it on the Easterhegg with 250 users, twice. 😉 The next test took place in England. On the EMF Camp we had already some more testers and it worked at the first attempt and without problems. On the 35C3 we want to crack the 2500 DECT extensions from last year. Without queues! How does it work? We describe the procedure in a detailed article.

Our first tests have shown that considerably more devices work with the new system than with the old one. Unfortunately, there are still manufacturers that deviate so much from the specification, that it is not possible for us to integrate devices from these manufacturers. We maintain a list of compatible devices in our Wiki.

There will also be GSM (mobile radio) again this year. We still have some SIM cards in stock, but please bring SIM cards from previous congresses. They still work. The GSM team will expand the network to 1800Mhz (2G) and 850Mhz (3G). The constellations in which voice and data will be distributed have not yet been finalized.

Since there was too much abuse at past events, there will be no SIP dialout on the 35C3. The 20 outgoing voice channels are only available for DECT and GSM (mobile radio) extensions. A dial-in for SIP, DECT & GSM extensions will be available at +49 (0) 464438299 < Extension>. EPVPN extensions are available from the event network with the prefix 01999 and from the EPVPN the event is available with the prefix 09.

There are other small and large new features such as the telephone book via LDAP, ringback tones or hotel DECT. Furthermore, we have a new support system. Requests via e‑mail, webchat, web form, telegram message or Twitter are collected in our helpdesk software, where they can be processed by several people. We hope to offer you an even better customer experience.  🙂

In diesem Jahr möchten wir zeigen, dass es möglich ist, zuverlässige, sichere Kommunikationsinfrastruktur mit höchster Qualität und Premium Service bereitzustellen. Für Euch! DECT, SIP oder GSM Nebenstellen könnt ihr im neuen GURU3 reservieren. Die alten Accounts und Daten aus dem GURU2 haben wir migriert. Es ist jetzt per Knopfdruck möglich, eine zufällige freie Nebenstelle zu wählen oder sich alle noch freien Nummern anzeigen zu lassen.

Im letzten Jahr schrieben wir noch: „Es ist technisch leider nicht möglich den Prozess [die Telefon Registrierung] zu beschleunigen oder zu parallelisieren.“
Und gerade weil es uns unmöglich erschien, haben wir es gebaut. Wir haben unsere treue, alte Anlage in Rente geschickt und auf der grünen Wiese angefangen, ein neues Telefonsystem zu entwickeln. Mit neuer Hardware und neuer Software – mit dem Fokus auf unsere größten Probleme: Wie werden wir die langen Schlangen an der DECT Registrierung los? Wie kann man parallel Telefone registrieren? Wie kann man überall wo man DECT Empfang hat Telefone registrieren? Wie kann jeder sein Telefon selbst registrieren?
Und fertig war die DECT Selbstregistrierung. Wir haben es auf dem Easterhegg mit 250 Usern getestet, zwei Mal. 😉 Der nächste Test fand in England statt. Auf dem EMF Camp waren es schon etwas mehr und es funktionierte beim ersten Anlauf und ohne Probleme. Auf dem 35C3 wollen wir nun die 2500 DECT Nebenstellen vom letzten Jahr knacken. Ohne Schlangen! Wie das geht, haben wir für euch in einem ausführlichen Artikel aufgeschrieben.

Unsere ersten Tests haben ergeben, dass deutlich mehr Geräte mit dem neuen System funktionieren als mit dem alten. Leider gibt es trotzdem noch Hersteller, die so stark von der Spezifikation abweichen, dass es uns nicht möglich ist, Geräte dieser Hersteller einzubinden. Eine Liste der kompatiblen Geräte pflegen wir in unserem Wiki.

Auch GSM (Mobilfunk) wird es in diesem Jahr wieder geben. Wir haben noch einige SIM Karten vorrätig, bitten euch jedoch, SIM Karten von den vergangenen Kongressen mitzubringen. Diese funktionieren weiterhin. Das GSM Team wird das Netz auf 1800Mhz (2G) und 850Mhz (3G) ausbreiten. In welchen Konstellationen Sprache und Daten verteilt werden steht noch nicht abschließend fest.

Da es auf vergangenen Veranstaltungen zu viel Missbrauch gab, wird es auf dem 35C3 kein SIP Dialout geben. Die 20 ausgehenden Sprachkanäle stehen nur für DECT und GSM (Mobilfunk) Nebenstellen zur Verfügung. Eine Einwahl für SIP, DECT & GSM Nebenstellen wird unter der Rufnummer +49 (0) 464438299 <Nebenstelle> zur Verfügung stehen. EPVPN Nebenstellen sind aus dem Eventnetz mit dem Präfix 01999 und aus dem EPVPN ist das Event mit dem Präfix 09 zu erreichen.
