EMF – Dialout restrictions

On August 29th we acti­va­ted free dia­lout for the EMF tele­pho­ne net­work. That means that calls can be made to all EU count­ries free of char­ge. It is pos­si­ble becau­se nex­mo spon­so­red a call cre­dit that is lar­ge enough for the event with “regu­lar” use. Sin­ce our only rule is: Be excel­lent to each other we did not acti­va­te any usa­ge rest­ric­tions becau­se we assu­me that ever­yo­ne hand­les resour­ces and infra­struc­tu­re respon­si­bly. Unfort­u­na­te­ly, SIP access data was used by an Event­phone exten­si­on on an insuf­fi­ci­ent­ly secu­red sys­tem and the con­tin­gent was misu­s­ed. The con­se­quence is a deac­ti­va­ti­on of this function. 

We now recei­ved a small con­tin­gent again, which makes us very hap­py. Reg­rett­ab­ly, we now have to sever­ely rest­rict the dia­lout in order to avo­id abu­se as much as pos­si­ble. For SIP exten­si­ons the dia­lout remains com­ple­te­ly deac­ti­va­ted. For DECT and GSM exten­si­ons, we have to limit the call dura­ti­on to a maxi­mum of 10 minu­tes. We are very sor­ry about it and reg­ret that we are ther­eby rest­ric­ting haeck­sen and hackers with peaceful, crea­ti­ve inten­ti­ons (and that is defi­ni­te­ly the majo­ri­ty) in expe­ri­men­ting, test­ing boun­da­ries and explo­ring our infrastructure.

Am 29. August akti­vier­ten wir für das EMF Tele­fon­netz kos­ten­frei­en Dia­lout. Das bedeu­tet es konn­ten kos­ten­los Gesprä­che in alle EU-Län­der geführt wer­den. Dies war mög­lich, weil uns nex­mo ein Kon­tin­gent gespon­sert hat, wel­ches bei “nor­ma­ler” Nut­zung pro­blem­los für die Ver­an­stal­tung gereicht hät­te. Da unse­re ein­zi­ge Regel ist: Be excel­lent to each other haben wir kei­ne Nut­zungs­ein­schrän­kun­gen akti­viert, weil wir davon aus­ge­hen, dass Jede und Jeder ver­ant­wor­tungs­voll mit Res­sour­cen und Infra­struk­tur umgeht. Lei­der wur­den SIP Zugangs­da­ten von einer Event­phone Neben­stel­le auf einem unzu­rei­chend gesi­cher­ten Sys­tem genutzt und das Kon­tin­gent miss­bräuch­lich auf­ge­braucht was zur Abschal­tung die­ser Funk­ti­on führ­te. Wir haben nun noch­mals ein klei­nes Kon­tin­gent erhal­ten, was uns sehr freut. Lei­der müs­sen wir nun den Dia­lout stark ein­schrän­ken, um Miss­brauch mög­lichst zu ver­mei­den. Für SIP Neben­stel­len bleibt der Dia­lout voll­stän­dig deak­ti­viert. Für DECT und GSM Neben­stel­len müs­sen wir die Gesprächs­dau­er auf maxi­mal 10 Minu­ten begren­zen. Uns tut die­se Maß­nah­me sehr leid und wir bedau­en, dass wir so Haeck­sen und Hacker mit fried­li­chen, krea­ti­ven Absich­ten (und das ist defi­ni­tiv die Mehr­heit) beim Expe­ri­men­tie­ren, Gren­zen aus­tes­ten und Erfor­schen unse­rer Infra­struk­tur einschränken.
